Fundraiser lasted an impressive 16 HOURS swimming at St Andrews Lakes in Kent

7th September 2025:

Endurance athlete Martin Malone has completed an incredible 16 hours of continuous open water swimming at St Andrews Lakes in Kent, raising more than £15,000 so far for two vital Isle of Man children’s charities: Rebecca House Children’s Hospice and The Children’s Centre.

The challenge, part of the wider Expedition Limitless 2026 mission, saw Martin attempt The BIG SWIM – a 24-hour continuous swim around the perimeter of the 70-acre lake.

Despite having to withdraw after 16 hours due to a suspected shoulder ligament tear, Martin’s determination and effort have already made a remarkable impact.

Supported by the Z Zurich Foundation, all donations will be matched pound-for-pound, doubling the funds raised for the two charities that provide life-changing support for children and families across the Isle of Man.

St Andrews Lakes also featured a charity perimeter swim this morning (7th September), with all proceeds going towards the cause.

The challenge, part of the wider Expedition Limitless 2026 mission, began at 9am on Saturday 6 September and aimed to push Malone to swim continuously around the 70-acre lake for 24 hours straight. The goal was to raise £50,000 towards a team total of £200,000, benefiting Rebecca House Children’s Hospice and The Children’s Centre – two organisations that provide vital, life-changing support to children and families across the Isle of Man.

Malone managed an astonishing 16 hours in the water, stopping only briefly each hour to refuel, before a suspected shoulder ligament tear forced him to withdraw in the early hours of Sunday morning. Despite the setback, Malone’s achievement has already generated more than £15,000 in donations, with the total continuing to rise.
